Beamtime Recovery for Users Affected by LINAC Delays

Principal Investigators, Spokespersons, and Delegates with projects that were affected by the shutdown will be contacted by email with instructions to submit a Beamtime Request (BTR) against their original projects to confirm their continued interest in pursuing the same research. This step will ensure that these experiments can proceed without further delay.

If you believe your project should be eligible for this prioritized access, but you did not receive instructions by email, please contact the User Services Office.

CMCF Users

Users with CMCF projects affected by the LINAC delays will not be contacted with beamtime recovery instructions, but all CMCF projects that were set to expire at the end of 2025 have now been extended to June 30, 2026. If you do not have an active project, please submit a new proposal for CMCF access.

To request that beamtime be reserved for you on CMCF at any time, please submit a Shift Request against your active CMCF project, indicating your scheduling preferences.

SyLMAND Users

Users with SyLMAND projects will not be contacted with beamtime recovery instructions, but all SyLMAND projects that were set to expire at the end of 2025 have now been extended to June 30, 2026. If you do not have an active project, please submit a new proposal for SyLMAND access.

Users with an active SyLMAND project can contact beamline staff at any time to request access. Note that Beamtime Requests are no longer required for access to SyLMAND against existing projects.

CLS@APS Access

Because APS and CLS operate on independent schedules, the deadline for CLS@APS submissions is earlier than the standard deadline for CLS Expressions of Interest.

Deadline for CLS@APS Access Submissions: October 19, 2025

Proposals will be accepted until October 19 from researchers at Canadian institutions seeking access to the Advanced Photon Source through the CLS@APS program. These proposals will be prioritized for beamtime in the upcoming APS Cycle, pending successful peer review.

Users with existing CLS@APS projects active in the CLS User Portal will be asked to submit Shift Requests to request beamtime against those projects.

Other Submissions

We anticipate high demand for beamtime from projects affected by the LINAC Project delays. As a result, Beamtime Requests (BTRs) for unaffected projects, along with proposals for new projects, have a reduced likelihood of being scheduled in the first half of 2026. We encourage users to submit Expressions of Interest in the form of BTRs and new proposals during this Call, with the understanding that scheduling opportunities may be limited.

New proposals submitted during this period will undergo the CLS Peer Review Process, which emphasizes the excellence of science where there is intent to publish scientific results. As with all general user proposals, upon successful review, these projects will be eligible for beamtime for up to four cycles.
