Our team understands the importance of continual learning, especially in the context of scientific research. Please see below for information on some of the recent conferences and events in which our team members have attended and participated, as well as a list of our association memberships.

Upcoming Events

Toby Bond will be presenting at the International Battery Materials Association Annual Meeting in Halifax this September 8-13th.

Joel Reid will be participating in the Rietveld Refinement & Indexing Clinic hosted by the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) as an instructor from September 24-27.

Burke Barlow will be attending the 16th International Conference on X-Ray Microscopy and presenting a poster. The conference runs from August 12th-16th, 2024.

Previous CLS Events

Our Industry Services staff attends various CLS workshops and other events. To see a complete list of CLS workshops, please visit the events page.

Peter Blanchard and Miranda Vu led a hands-on sample preparation portion during CLS's XAS workshop. Attendees were able to learn about soft x-ray sample preparation, and hard x-ray sample preparation for both transmission and fluorescence experiments, while having the opportunity to interact with staff and ask questions as needed. Peter also gave a presentation highlighting the applications of XAS experiments.

Joel Reid presented at CLS's XRD & Scattering School from June 18th-20th, 2024.

Previous External Events

Erika Bergen attended APMA's 71st Annual Conference on June 11, 2024.

Joel Reid presented at the 16th Canadian Powder Diffraction Workshop. Joel presented an introduction to powder diffraction, powder diffractions structure solutions, and finding experimental solutions using synchrotron techniques at the CLS. Joel also provided software tutorials during the workshop.

Joel attended the 15th Canadian Chemical Crystallography Workshop (CCCW24) in Winnipeg from May 28-June 1, 2024.

Industry Services had a booth at CIM CONNECT 2024 in Vancouver, where you may have met Peter, Erika, and Burke in May.

Peter Blanchard attended Goldschmidt 2023 in Lyon, France. He presented a poster showing the applications of synchrotron-based techniques in the management of mine waste and tailings.

Joel Reid participated in the Rietveld Refinement & Indexing Clinic hosted by the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) as an instructor.

Peter Blanchard attended IDEATE 2024 in Saskatoon on June 19th, 2024. This meeting focused on problems within the mineral industry and their possible solutions.

Toby Bond attended the 40th Annual International Battery Seminar and Exhibit. The conference was attended by representatives from industry as well as battery researchers. Everything from battery research and development, applications, and manufacturing was discussed.

Burke Barlow attended and presented a poster at the 2024 Microscopy Society of Canada meeting. The meeting took place in Ottawa from June 4th-7th, 2024.

Peter and Erika attended The World's Premier Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention, PDAC 2024 in Toronto from March 3-6, 2024.

Peter Blanchard, Burke Barlowe, and Erika Bergen attended the 2023 Saskatchewan Geological Society (SGS) open house. If you also attended this event, you may have seen them at the purple CLS Industry Services booth.

Memberships

The Industry Services group is a member of various associations. These memberships provide us with opportunities to stay up-to-date with industry issues and solutions, as well as opportunites to network with individuals and other organizations.

APMA

Industry Services is a memeber of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association (APMA). APMA membership provides our team with preferential access to events that allow for networking and research and development opportunities.

CRN

Industry Services is a member of the Composites Research Network (CRN). CRN aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry to improve composite design and manufacturing. Synchrotron techniques can be applied in various ways to gain insights into composite structures, which makes the membership important for networking and creating connections in the composites industry.

IMII

Industry Services is a member of the International Minerals Innovation Institute (IMII). IMII is dedicated to improving the mineral industry through innovation, education, and partnerships. IMII is a helpful resource for developing connections within the mineral industry to pursue research and development.
