Be part of Discovery at the Speed of Light

Every day, scientists from across Canada and around the world use our facility to do leading-edge, innovative research in health, agriculture, environment, and energy and advanced materials.

We offer a vibrant interdisciplinary environment, state-of-the-art research facilities, opportunities to interact with leading experts from a host of fields, and training in a wide range of scientific techniques.

We help researchers develop practical solutions to the complex, pressing problems facing our world today, from climate change and emerging diseases to food security and energy storage. At the CLS, we’re also training the next generation of scientists and supporting industries to become more efficient and sustainable.

Join the more than 250 people -- including scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative and business personnel -- who are enabling Discovery at the Speed of Light!

Our people

Linda Lin, a mechanical engineer, has been with the CLS for more than 15 years and is proud of everything that she's learned in that time. "In this facility, I got to learn lots of new things," says Lin. "I learned about a vacuum system that I didn’t learn about in school, the cryogenic system, and I am now responsible for the superconducting wigglers. I feel powerful!”

My job day to day is never exactly the same,” says Darwin Taylor, a mechanical designer in our CAD department. “I can be doing piping drawings, I can be doing machine design, I can be doing design for optics equipment. There aren’t too many engineering-type things that I haven't had my hands in, in some way. So it's always interesting.”
“My job involves mostly problem solving, and I love problem solving,” says Chelsea Greenwald, one of our software developers. It's really satisfying to figure out the solution to something, but it's also satisfying to help someone else get something that they need. The software team is very team focused where we build each other up and we help each other out."

We want a team that reflects our community

We are committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in our work to advance science in a global environment. We believe that our organization should reflect the diversity of the community in which we live, as well as the larger scientific community and industry we serve. We also recognize the barriers and inequalities experienced by underrepresented groups and strive to address these in our workforce planning. The CLS aspires to be an employer that provides opportunities for everyone to achieve their full potential. To achieve excellence in synchrotron light source services and solutions, we want to attract world-class talent, both locally and internationally.

We welcome all qualified candidates to apply. If you have any questions or concerns about accessibility at the CLS, or want to begin a confidential conversation about any individual accommodation needs during our recruitment process, please contact us at jobs@lightsource.ca. In alignment with Employment Equity, we encourage members of designated groups (women, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities) to self-identify on their application.

We are an Employer Partner of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI). As an organization rooted in science and innovation, the CLS is committed to learning and growing together using the tools available to us through partners such as CCDI.
