Canadian Light Source

Michelle is the Laboratory Coordinator within the Strategic Support Group at the Canadian Light Source. She oversees all general-use laboratories not directly associated with beamlines, trains users on equipment and instrumentation, and provides guidance and support with sample preparation for a variety of beamline techniques.

Michelle earned both her BSc. and MSc. degrees in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of Saskatchewan, where she studied genetics and bet-hedging in Salmonella. Following her MSc., she worked as a research technician at VIDO-InterVac, investigating the persistence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In addition to her research, she played a key role in maintaining containment level 2 (CL2) and level 3 (CL3) laboratories, as well as training students. In 2025, Michelle joined the CLS to pursue her interest in laboratory operations and teaching.

Outside of the laboratory, Michelle enjoys spending time outdoors, running, listeningto music, and drawing.
