SGM - Spherical Grating Monochromator Beamline

The SGM beamline is designed for soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy with an emphasis on environmental samples and catalytic materials. An easily accessible endstation, utilizing four silicon drift detectors, is highly configurable and ideal for performing in-situ and in-operando experiments.

Spectral Range

250-2000 eV

Techniques

Imaging & Microscopy

  • Micro XAFS/XRF Imaging

Spectroscopy

  • X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS/XANES/XAFS)
    • In-Situ and In-operando spectroscopy
    • Anaerobic sample transfer capabilities
  • Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES)

Samples

Powder samples can be pressed into custom pellet holders for bulk spectroscopy.  Sample holders are highly customizable and can be adapted for mounting almost any type of samples.  A custom in-situ cell with full electro-chemical capabilities is available for use as well as an anaerobic sample holder that can be used to transfer samples from our electro chemical lab glove box into the endstation vacuum.

Peer-Reviewed Access

Academic clients can submit proposals through a peer review process. Beam time is granted based on scientific merit, with the expectation that any results will be published. In special cases, rapid access is also available for instrument or beam time.
