We have two long-term programs available at the Canadian Light Source:

Students on the Beamlines and Undergraduate Research Program

As students participate in these programs, they have a chance to explore science by doing their own research project while navigating through the scientific process. Students have guidance from mentors who encourage them to examine new information that is of interest to the scientific community. These programs are long-term, which means that they take several months to complete from beginning to end. The specific length is flexible to meet the needs of the school or university. For high school extra-curricular groups we recommend a two-year project.

Students on the Beamlines is an authentic and immersive science research experience for high school students. Students design a scientific question/hypothesis, develop their experimental plan including using the synchrotron as a technique, execute their experimental plan by visiting the Canadian Light Source, and communicate their results to the community.
Undergraduate Research Program offers an opportunity for undergraduate students to take part in their own research offered through an undergraduate course. Professors are invited to collaborate with CLS Education to design a way for students to develop, execute and communicate their own experiment in a way that fits with course outcomes.
