High-Sensitivity X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

Overview

BioXAS-Spectroscopy beamline is optimized for the high-sensitivity X-ray detection on low concentrated samples. Beamline applications are focused on (but not limited to) Bio/Life sciences, typical cases include the study of local coordination around metallic centers in enzymes, or monitoring the evolution of electronic state in the single-atom catalysts, or analyzing the chemical speciation of trace elements in minerals and soils.

Optics

  • Rh-coated toroidal mirrors for vertical collimation and moderate horizontal focusing.
  • Si220 Double Crystal Monochromator, pseudo channel-cut, LN2-cooled
  • CVD Diamond-coated Harmonic Rejection Mirrors

Endstation & Capabilities

  • Beamline incorporates two endstations operating independently to maximize throughput.
  • Standard setup includes 3 Ionization Chambers (N2/Ar flow), Large-Area PIPS Diode (Total Fluorescence Yield), multi-positional sample holder on movable stage for automated measurements at ambient conditions.
  • Beamline is equipped with the Liquid Helium cryostats to protect the samples from radiation damage and improve the signal/noise ratio in EXAFS region. LN2 is used by default, please inform the beamline staff in advance if LHe is required.
  • Two 32-channel HPGE detectors (Canberra) paired with powerful XSPRESS3 ADCs may work simultaneously and provide exceptional detection capabilities – sub-ppm / sub-µM in XANES regime.
