General User Proposal Results
Research time allocated through the General User mechanism is via competitive peer review emphasizing the excellence of science where there is intent to publish scientific results. General User beam time requests are considered at various times throughout the year. See Call for Proposals for submission dates.
Results of the Call
Macromolecular Crystallography
CLS held its Peer Review Committee (PRC) meeting for Macromolecular Crystallography on May 4, 2011 for general user proposals beamtime.
Each proposal was reviewed and scored by each member of the Peer Review Committee on a scale of one to five, one being the highest score, five being the lowest. Reviewers evaluate and score each proposal to reflect the excellence of science. Click here for detailed description of the evaluation criteria and grading scale.
The PRC consists of:
- Lisa Keefe, IMCA-CAT, APS
- Barry Finzel, University of Minnesota
- David Rose, University of Waterloo
Scheduling of Beamtime
Scheduling of beamtime is based on competitive peer review two times per year emphasizing the excellence of science. Proposals which are approved for safety and technical feasibility, and ethics, if applicable; receive a score between 1 and 4, will be considered ACTIVE and remain active for 2 years (four cycles). Active proposals are not re-evaluated and may request shifts as required anytime throughout the two-year timeframe. To submit a request, see http://www.lightsource.ca/uso/macromolecular_crystallography.php. If a scheduling conflict arises, priority will be given to the highest ranked proposals.
The chart below lists the number of proposals received and score for the proposals.
All Other Beamlines
CLS held its Peer Review Committee (PRC) meeting on November 9, 2011 for general user proposals for beamtime January-June, 2012.
Proposals were reviewed and scored by the Peer Review Committee and at least three external reviewers on a scale of one to five, one being the highest score, five being the lowest. Reviewers evaluate and score each proposal to reflect the excellence of science.
The PRC consists of:
- Kevin Prince – Elettra Synchrotron Light Source (chair)
- Mary Gilles - Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- Clemens Heske - University of Nevada
- Peter Nico – Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- Bruce Ravel – National Institute of Standards and Technology
- Daniel Strawn - University of Idaho
- Barry Wells - University of Connecticut
- Naoto Yagi - SPring-8/JASRI
Beamtime Allocation and Cutoff Bands
Scheduling Period: January – June, 2012
The table below lists the number of proposals received and allocated for each beamline. Beamtime was allocated based on each proposal's ranking, in relation to all other proposals for a given beamline. When requests for beam time on a beamline exceeded available time, the proposals above the cut-off line in the same scoring range were placed in a “decision band” and were further assessed based on the suitability and quality of the proposed research, as well as the capability of researchers. View Evaluation Criteria and Rating Scale.
