Research Opportunities in Terahertz (THz) Science and Technology

Friday, June 16, 2006 (Morning, 1/2 Day Workshop)

Energy on the THz scale is pervasive to physical, chemical and biological processes. However, the THz spectral region has been ‘off-limits’ to researchers until recently; it is still not readily accessible to most researchers. It is thus important to build instruments and further develop this technology to make this region more accessible so that THz Science can evolve. The primary goal of this workshop is to bring awareness of potential research opportunities in THz Science and Technology by introducing incoherent and coherent Synchrotron Radiation sources to the scientific and industrial communities. We have invited several leading international scientists from various research areas (solid-state devices, Long wave spectroscopy and imaging systems, instrumentation, high-resolution gas-phase spectroscopy, chemical dynamics) to discuss their current THz scientific studies, and to offer their views on research possibilities in the THz region, and future directions of THz technologies.
