CLS 6th Annual Users' Meeting

Dear Colleague,
You are cordially invited to attend the sixth Annual Users' Meeting of the Canadian Light Source and associated workshops on the University of Saskatchewan campus November 13-15, 2003. This meeting, organized by the Users’ Advisory Committee of the CLS, will be a great opportunity to learn about the progress of the Canadian Light Source, present your recent synchrotron work, and meet fellow users.
This year there are a number of exciting speakers on the program. Other activities include:
- reports on the status of the facility;
- nominations for new members to the Users’ Advisory Committee – the committee that represents the interests and concerns of users to the CLS;
- a banquet on Saturday evening; and
- a poster and vendor session held in the beautiful atrium of the Geology Building, where you can discuss synchrotron science and enjoy refreshments in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Poster Session:
Please consider submitting a poster on your synchrotron work. Titles and abstracts
should be submitted by October 31, 2003. The meeting web page provides further
details.
CISR Poster Prize:
The Canadian Institute for Synchrotron Radiation (www.cisr.ca) will offer a prize
for the best synchrotron poster presented by a graduate student or post-doctoral
fellow. The prize will be $1000 to support travel to a related conference of
their choice in the coming year.
Associated Workshops:
In addition to the events at the Saturday Users' Meeting, a series of workshops
will be held. A two-day WinXAS course (limit of 38 participants) will run Thursday,
November 13th & Friday, November 14th. On Friday, there will be a full-day
IR workshop as well as two half-day workshops covering Automation of Protein
Crystallography Beamlines and BioMaterials Research Using Synchrotron Radiation
Techniques. Details on the workshops will be available soon on the meeting web
page.
Associated Meetings:
Beamline Team Meetings: Sunday, November 16th, for beamline teams wishing to hold
individual meetings.
A CLS Facility Upgrade Discussions & Priorities meeting will also be held on Sunday, followed by a meeting of the Beamline Advisory Committee. Watch for the times and locations of these meetings on the website.
Travel Subsidy:
A travel subsidy is available to attendees of the Annual Users' Meeting attendees:
$300 for AUM attendees traveling from outside of the prairies, and $200 for AUM
attendees from the prairies outside of the Saskatoon region. Deadline for submission
of travel subsidy is December 31st, 2003. Application forms and instructions
will be available on the AUM website.
