This festival builds on a successful European initiative, Physics on Stage/Science on Stage. It includes the Canadian Light Source (CLS) annual Summer Workshop for Teachers and professional development opportunities from the colleges of Engineering and Agriculture & Bioresources at the U of S. Building enthusiasm for science and for learning science takes a dedicated effort and to that end we have put forth our own Science on Stage Canada. We are confident in our mission to affect ‘Canadian science’ at the ground floor, the inquiring and curious minds of school children. These are the scientists of tomorrow and all the tremendous contributions to science that are yet to come!

A key issue facing Canadian educators is inclusion of the First Nations, Métis & Inuit (FNMI) community. The first festivals are to be hosted by the CLS, located on the beautiful University of Saskatchewan (U of S) campus. The U of S is uniquely positioned to contribute to SoSC through partnerships and relationships, to weave FNMI perspectives throughout this event with presenters, cultural activities, and visitors.
CLS is committed to hosting this prestigious festival for three years. SoSC is a not-for-profit corporation positioned to build into a nationally recognized science educator program, a source of provincial/territorial pride whereby teachers are selected locally to represent their colleagues. We are focussing on educators that work specifically with students aged 14 to 18. In the future, we expect to expand to include science educators of learners of all ages including the very young and post-secondary educators working in universities and technical schools.
