Student Travel Support

CLS Graduate and Post-Doctoral Student Travel Support Program

Revised July 1, 2016

The training of HQP (Highly Qualified Personnel) is a priority for the CLS. High travel costs create a significant barrier for students from outside Saskatoon who need to access the CLS for their research or for students who need access to CLS@APS. Therefore, this program has been created to support students travelling to the CLS in Saskatoon, SK to conduct experiments that have been allocated through the peer-review process and to students travelling to APS in Illinois to conduct experiments at CLS@APS. Support is limited to two visits per student in a calendar year, based on available budgets.

To be eligible for a travel award you must:

  • Be a graduate or post-doctoral student enrolled at a Canadian university or college;
  • Be included in a proposal that has been allocated beamtime at the CLS or at the CLS@APS;
  • Agree to the Terms of the Travel Reimbursement:

Reimbursement is based on expenses for travel and room accommodation only, up to the maximum amounts given below.  Accommodation expenses are restricted to the CLS-operated residence (Ogle Hall), if travelling to the CLS in Saskatoon. The CLS will compensate only for eligible expenses.

Recipients must:

Acknowledge this support in any publications about their work and provide the CLS with a copy of such publications, including theses, in the form: (Student name) acknowledges the receipt of support from the CLS Graduate and Post-Doctoral Student Travel Support Program.

  • Travel must occur within the Cycle for which the student’s application was approved.
  • Only two expense claims can be submitted in a calendar year.
  • CLSI reserves the right to limit the number of reimbursements in a calendar year based on available budgets.
