1.  Executive Director Search has Begun

After a very successful term as Executive Director of CLS, Bill Thomlinson will retire in June 2008.

The CLS Board of Directors has begun an international search for a new Executive Director. The search committee is chaired by Arthur Carty, Chairman of the Board and National Science Advisor, Industry Canada; and composed of stakeholders including CLS Board members, CLS management, representatives from the international synchrotron community, as well as industry and user community representatives.

2. CLS Activity Report 2005-2006 Released

The 2005-2006 edition of the CLS Activity Report was recently released to coincide with the Annual Users’ Meeting. Covering the period from January 2005 to December 2006, this edition includes research highlights and progress reports documenting the progress made at Canada’s synchrotron.

The Activity Report can be downloaded from the CLS website in its entirety or as thematic sections from http://www.lightsource.ca/brochures. Hardcopies can be requested by contacting cls@lightsource.ca.

3. Vote for Users' Advisory Committee Members

A request for you to participate in the Users' Advisory Committee (UAC) online election will be distributed on Wednesday, July 11. If you do not receive a request to vote by email, please be sure to contact clsuo@lightsource.ca indicating that you intend to use the CLS for your research and therefore would like to have the opportunity to vote on UAC representation.

The UAC provides advice to the Director on the operation and management of the synchrotron and beamlines; represents the interests of CLS users; provides feedback to CLS management on various aspects of the development and operation of CLS; assists CLS in providing feedback to users about CLS-related issues and plans, and hosts the CLS User's Meetings with assistance from CLS.

Nominations will continue to be accepted until Tuesday, July 3. Do not miss your opportunity to be involved in the decision making process!  Forward your nominations to a member of the UAC or clsuo@lightsource.ca

4. MASR 2007 – Early Registration Payment Deadline- July 30

The International Meeting for Medical Applications of Synchrotron Radiation (MASR) will be held August 26 – 30, 2007 in Saskatoon, Canada. Confirmed speakers include, Jacques Balosso (INSERM, France), Fulvia Arfelli (INFN, Italy), Alberto Bravin (ESRF, France), Diego Dreossi (INFN, Italy), Francois Esteve (INSERM, France), Ralf Menk (Elettra, Italy), Elisabeth Schültke (UofS, Canada), Naoto Yagi (Spring-8, Japan) and Luca Quaroni (CLS, Canada).

Abstract submission is now closed and early bird registration deadline is July 30.
