Storage Ring Operational!
After two months of system checks and preliminary commissioning, the electron beam has been stored in the storage ring. On Tuesday November 18th it was first stored for one second (1.75 million revolutions). The following day the beam was "stacked" to a current of 4mA and stored for 20 consecutive minutes.
We would like to thank everyone involved in achieving this significant milestone for their hard work and enthusiasm.
The next step will be to increase the current from the present 4 mA to 100 mA- the initial operating goal- and to increase the half life of the stored beam from 12 minutes to 4 hours.
This photo shows commissioning leader Les Dallin watching the first storage ring stored beam on an oscilloscope, on November 19th 2003.
