At the end of the last commissioning period (May 2004) the following images were captured in the OSR beamline (Optical Synchrotron Radiation) using the Iccd camera (Intensified charge-coupled device) and the Streak camera. The image on the right (black & white) shows various electron bunches side-by-side displaying a length of 100 pico/seconds, which is consistent with design expectations. The image on the left (colour) shows a single bunch viewed head-on.
On Monday, May 31, 2004 Prime Minister Paul Martin (with Finance Minister Ralph Goodale) toured the CLS as part of his visit to Saskatoon.
Federal Finance Minister Ralph Goodale announced on Tuesday April 6th an increase in funding towards the operations of CLS (Top left photo). Dr. Arthur Carty, National Science Advisor for the Prime Minister, says a few words to the audience of approximatelly 150 people. Seated behind him are: Dr. Walter Davidson, Director, National Facilities, NRC; Minister Goodale; Dr. Serge Villemure, Acting Director, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, NSERC; Mr. Peter MacKinnon, President, University of Saskatchewan; and Dr. Bill Thomlinson, CLS Executive Director.(Top right photo).
Dr. Roberta Bondar (center), one of Canada's original astronauts and the first Canadian woman to fly in space, visited the CLS on March 28th. She was given the grand tour of the facility by Bill Thomlinson, Executive Director (at left), and Mark de Jong, Project Leader (at right).
 
Graduate students from Laurentian University visit the synchrotron on January 27-28, 2004. They learned how they use it in their respective areas of science: botany, earth sciences, biology and chemistry.
