New Director of Business Development Aims to Expand Partnerships Between Canadian Light Source Synchrotron, Industry

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN –The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is pleased to welcome Royal Hinther as the synchrotron’s new Director of Business Development. The former Head of Business Development with the National Research Council’s Plant Biotechnology Institute (NRC-PBI) in Saskatoon, Hinther brings over 25 years of experience in science and technology commercialization to the position.

“We’re thrilled that Royal is joining our team,” says CLS Executive Director Josef Hormes. “His experience and expertise in developing strategic alliances with industry will be central to the success of our business development initiatives and industrial science program.”

“I’ve already worked with the staff at CLS, and they are a fantastic team whose dedication to excellence and innovation has contributed to the CLS being recognized as one of the world’s leading synchrotrons in terms of science and building partnerships with industry,” says Hinther.  “They are leaders in their own right.”

Hinther is keenly aware of the cross-disciplinary nature of synchrotron research, as well as the importance of building partnerships throughout the innovation chain to support CLS research. He intends to maintain and strengthen partnerships with fundamental research institutions like universities, while working to build complementary relationships with industry.

Synchrotron light is invaluable in a wide range of industrial research and development, including new drug development, environmental protection and enhanced extraction techniques for greener mining.
