FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 16, 2004
More than 300 synchrotron researchers in a variety of research fields from around the world will gather at the University of Saskatchewan for the 7th Annual Users’ Meeting of the newly opened Canadian Light Source Nov. 19th and 20th.
“It is always a great pleasure to host our colleagues from around the world,” says CLS Executive Director Bill Thomlinson. “What makes this meeting especially exciting is that we are welcoming the world to a CLS that is officially open for business.”
Scientists from across North America, Europe, Australia and Japan are meeting on campus to take in workshops and meetings to share the latest in synchrotron techniques and discuss their application at the CLS.
Media are welcome to attend the whole meeting as well as individual sessions. All workshops will take place at the National Research Council Plant Biotechnology Institute, 110 Gymnasium Place. Due to NRC-PBI building security requirements, all Friday workshop participants, including media, must be registered in advance.
Four pre-meeting workshops are scheduled:
- Medical Imaging (Nov. 19th)
- Environmental Science Applications (Nov. 19th)
- Protein Crystallography (Nov. 19th)
- X-ray Absorption Fine-structure Spectroscopy (XAFS) Analysis (Nov. 17th and 18th)
The annual Users’ Meeting will take place Saturday, Nov. 20th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include seminars and poster presentations. Saturday’s sessions will be held in the U of S Geology and Biology Buildings.
