Dear CLS Users,
As you know, the H1N1 influenza virus is now spreading throughout Canada.
The CLS has prepared contingency plans, based on a possible staff absentee rate of 35%. Our planning is based on the University of Saskatchewan’s and its objective is to keep the virus at arm’s length as long as possible, from our staff and users.
Please help us by doing the following:
-
If you are from outside Saskatoon, and have influenza-like symptoms, you should not travel to Saskatoon.
-
If you develop influenza-like symptoms whilst in Saskatoon, you should not come to the CLS.
-
Users who appear to have influenza-like symptoms will be asked to leave the CLS, so please stay away if you are sick. We will also be requiring our own staff to go home if they appear to have influenza-like symptoms.
-
If you are scheduled to come to the CLS and are sick, please call the User Office (657-3700) or the Floor Co-ordinator (657-3639), particularly if you need assistance. We recommend you bring a cell phone, especially if you are staying in the Lutheran Seminary.
-
While at the CLS, you should wash your hands with soap and water as often as practical, and make use of the hand sanitizers located throughout the facility. We are installing extra sanitizers on the experimental floor.
-
We recommend that you bring a Flu kit, in case you do get sick whilst in Saskatoon.
-
Please ensure that you have adequate travel insurance. We recommend that you become familiar with the travel services offered by your home institution or government.
-
You may experience a lower than normal level of support, as beamline staff may be absent sick. Where possible, we will arrange for non-specialist staff to cover for sick beamline staff. If no staff is available, we may have to close beamlines – this may happen at very short (even zero) notice, as the H1H1 infection has a very rapid onset.
-
We anticipate that there is enough staff available to keep the users office functioning – permits should continue to be processed, and users given the required training and badges.
-
We anticipate that we have enough qualified floor co-ordinators and machine operators so that we will continue to meet regulatory staff requirements, and will not need to shut down the machine.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
If you have any questions or feedback, please contact the Users Office.
