"The Canadian Light Source: A Bright Light on Canadian Science"

The inauguration of the Canadian Light Source (CLS) -- the first state-of-the-art synchrotron facility designed, constructed and operated in Canada -- heralds a new era for Canada's role in the global scientific community and of innovation and scientific collaboration for Canadians.

Dr. Arthur Carty, National Science Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chair of the Board of Canadian Light Source Inc., will be guest speaker at the Canadian Light Source Grand Opening Gala Dinner. He will discuss why the CLS is such an important addition to Canada's national science agenda.

Construction of the $174-million University of Saskatchewan-owned national facility has been funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian government (including Western Economic Diversification Canada, Natural Resources Canada and the National Research Council), Saskatchewan Industry and Resources, the Ontario Innovation Trust, the Alberta Science and Research Authority, the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, the U of S, the City of Saskatoon, SaskPower, Boehringer Ingelheim, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Alberta. GlaxoSmithKline has also provided funding toward a U of S chair in an area of synchrotron science.
