MASR 2007

Author Instructions

We will be publishing the proceedings in the European Journal of Radiology as a Special Issue. The papers will go through peer review organized by the Journal. Manuscripts will be collected by our Publication Committee where they will undergo a pre-review (please send to Bernhard H.J. Juurlink - bernhard.juurlink@usask.ca). Our Publication Committee will organize an internal review and may offer suggestions for manuscript revision before we send the manuscripts on to the European Journal of Radiology for the definitive peer review.

To expedite the publication we require the submission of the manuscript during the MASR Conference. Please submit both a paper version as well as an electronic version. The electronic version can be emailed to: bernhard.juurlink@usask.ca. Alternatively, to ensure that there is no transmission corruption of your manuscript, you may wish to submit an electronic version on a disc or on a memory stick at the meeting

Manuscript Preparation: for details on how to prepare your manuscript please click here.

Submission of an article indicates that it has not been submitted elsewhere nor has the work been published previously except in abstract form, and that if the article is accepted in the European Journal of Radiology it will not be published in the same form elsewhere except by permission of the publisher.  There should be written statements upon submission that there is no conflict of interest that could inappropriately influence the research and that the research involving humans or animals has been carried out in accordance with the ethical standards followed by their institutions – these standards must be in accord with the standards of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki).

Copyright to the article will be assigned to Elsevier Ltd.

Manuscript Length: Please note that manuscripts should be no longer than 4 published pages. Typically a published page is comprised on the average ~940 words arranged in two columns (i.e., ~3760 words), or more specifically ~ 6200 characters plus spaces. Columns are ~9 cm in width and 24 cm in length with the maximum number of lines per page being 57. If you have two figures each occupying two columns with a height of 8 cm and requiring a header and a footer regions of ~ 3 mm each, you have used up 16.6 cm of space for figures which means you now have only 3100 words for your abstract, key words, text, figure legends, acknowledgments and references. Note that Tables take a lot of space and it is wise not to use such unless absolutely necessary.

Word Processing Software:  Manuscript should be in Microsoft Word if at all possible since the Publication Committee uses this program or, if this is not possible, then Wordperfect or LaTex are acceptable.  Do not use the automatic word-break option, justified layout, automatic line or paragraph numbering or column lay-out.  Do paginate the manuscript and one can use bold-face, italics, subscripts and superscripts where appropriate.

Manuscript Format:
As taken from the EJR Website the manuscript must be organized as follows: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Main text, Acknowledgements, References, Figure legends and Tables.

Title Page:  should contain an informative title, authors and author affiliations including full postal addresses, telephone & fax numbers as well as email addresses of all authors.  The corresponding author and contact information should be highlighted.

The second page should contain the Title only (it is this page that will be used for peer review submission and not the first title page with author indication).

Abstract:  This should be 200-250 words in length.  The abstract should be followed by 3-6 keywords.

Body:  the body should be organized as: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion(s).  This organization is not necessary if it is a review article where other subheadings would be more useful.

References should be about 15 and no more than 20.  Reference formatting is as follows as taken off the web site:
