Contact: clsuo@lightsource.ca

A Call for Proposals is open for beamtime during the July-December, 2007 period. You have the option of submitting a NEW proposal or submitting a Beam Time Request against an Active Proposal. Allocation of shifts for July- December, 2007 will be based on the highest ranked proposals (both new and active).

New GENERAL USER PROPOSALS received for Far-IR, PGM, SGM, SM and the XAFS endstation on HXMA beamlines will be reviewed for safety and technical feasibility and scored for scientific merit by the CLS peer review committee on completion of the call for proposal. Research time is assigned through this process twice per year. General User research should result in the publishing of scientific results.

4. Industrial Science Update
Contact: jeff.cutler@lightsource.ca

The industrial science group is involved in a number of different events taking place over the next several months, such as the Canadian Society for Chemistry conference in Winnipeg, where chemists from academia and industry gather, and the Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation meeting in Baton Rouge, the key event in the North American synchrotron design community.

Also noteworthy is a workshop to be held at the CLS Users’ meeting on industrial applications of synchrotron light which will include leaders in commercial synchrotron applications. Dr. Simon Bare, from UOP LLC (a Honeywell Company) and Dr. Stewart McIntyre, former Director of Surface Science Western are the keynote speakers. More information will be available soon on http://www.lightsource.ca/uac/meeting2007/workshop_indapp.php

In other news, several members of the team along with key representatives of the University of Saskatchewan recently attended a meeting at the IBM Industrial Solutions Laboratory located at the Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, NY to discuss future collaborations. Several areas of mutual interest were identified for future discussion. Stay tuned.
