Eight grade 11 and 12 students from Miramichi Valley and James M. Memorial High School Miramichi, NB participated in the Students on the Beamline program. They were curious about meteorites and the detailed chemical structure.  Analysis using the Photo Electron Emission microscope on the Spectro Miroscopy (PEEM-SM) Beamline might provide clues about the origin of the meteorite.  Meteorites are pieces of asteroids that have broken off and are susceptible to damage from the Earth’s atmosphere. They worked with Dr.Uday Lanke to understand how PEEM works and Professor Emeritus Dr.Mel Stauffer to learn more about meteorites.  Their exploration of the meteorite using polarized light revealed exciting images new to the scientific community.
