2012 Summer Student Employment Opportunities
The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is the national synchrotron research facility on the University of Saskatchewan campus. This facility produces high intensity synchrotron light, millions of times brighter than sunlight, to explore the nature and structure of molecules. The synchrotron facilitates scientific research in the areas of health, advanced materials and the environment and serves national and international users from academia, industry and government institutions.
CLSI is currently receiving applications from post-secondary students for the following summer positions. The positions run from May 1 – August 31, 2012. The wage rate per hour is consistent with the University of Saskatchewan, Undergraduate Student Assistant Rates. All applicants must be returning to school in the fall, as per the criteria of our summer student funding program.

Marketing Assistant – Job No. 684
As a member of the Business Development team, the student will provide marketing services to effectively support CLSI. The student will assist in coordinating logistics of CLS participation in in-house and off-site events (conferences, trade shows) such as transportation of display materials and literature; control inventory of promotional materials and merchandise; assist with procurement of new materials; respond to requests for information and ensure prompt distribution of promotional materials and literature; process and track financial documents (invoices etc); conduct extensive Internet research and market analysis; format/ type summary documents and PowerPoint presentations; assist with specific marketing projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2nd or 3rd year Business or Arts & Science student
- Fluent in Microsoft Office 2003 (Word and PowerPoint)
- Excellent Internet research skills
- Previous experience in public relations and marketing activities is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work with little supervision
- Familiarity with a science-based work setting is an asset
- Excellent writing skills
Assistant Staff Writer – Job No. 685
As a member of the Business Development Team, reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Assistant Staff Writer will produce science highlights and other informational material for dissemination to lay audiences in a variety of media (print and online); conduct background research using recent scientific literature; write, interview researchers and do editing; assist with production and distribution of the CLS Research Highlights Report; assist with production of the staff newsletter and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2nd or 3rd Year undergraduate student in Arts & Science or Education
- Strong writing and editing skills essential
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher); experience with Adobe PhotoShop an asset
- Experience using social media and web tools an asset
- Research skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
